I have read your blog with interest - I specialise in Voip Phone Systems hence I thought I will leave you a comment - Voip is definately gaining ground certainly as far as our customers go.

It is not always a smooth transition - very much depends on the the quality of the bandwidth the individual business has access to. Once the teething problems are ironed out then Business VOIP offers great quality & savings.

As far as video telecommunications are concerned - current video phones offer unimpressive results - however having just completed a development project for pay per minute video cam site and used some of the latest compression methods - full screen 720p video is over the web is not only achievable but impressive. We have tried 1080i - currently is will remain a no go area for the amount of bandwidth it eats regardless how we have tried to compress it. There is of course some delay - say 1-4 seconds depending how far the feed has to travel. I have no doubt this will only get better.
